TorqueX FAQ

1. General Questions

Q: What is an e-bike conversion kit?
A: An e-bike conversion kit allows you to turn a standard bicycle into an electric bike. It typically includes a motor (hub or mid-drive), battery, controller, and all necessary wiring and accessories.

Q: Will a conversion kit fit my bike?
A: Most kits are compatible with standard road, hybrid, and mountain bikes. Compatibility depends on wheel size, frame type, and brake system. Check the kit specifications before purchasing.

Q: How fast will my converted e-bike go?
A: Maximum speed depends on the motor and controller. Your speed may vary depending on the kit, rider weight, terrain, and battery level.

2. Installation & Setup

Q: Do I need professional help to install a conversion kit?
A: While some experienced cyclists can install kits themselves, proper installation is critical for safety and warranty coverage. TorqueX recommends using a professional bike mechanic if you are not confident.

Q: How long does installation take?
A: Depending on experience, installation typically takes 1–3 hours. Mid-drive systems can take longer than hub motors.

Q: Will installation affect my bike’s warranty?
A: Installing a conversion kit may void the manufacturer’s original bike warranty. However, TorqueX kits have their own warranty for defects.

3. Battery & Charging

Q: How far can I ride on a single charge?
A: Range depends on battery capacity, motor power, rider weight, terrain, and riding style. Typical ranges are 20–50 miles (30–80 km).

Q: How do I charge the battery?
A: Use the charger supplied with your TorqueX kit. Charging time typically takes 4–6 hours for a full charge.

Q: Can I leave the battery on the bike overnight?
A: It is safe to leave it mounted, but always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid leaving it in extreme heat, cold, or damp conditions for long periods.

4. Maintenance & Safety

Q: How do I maintain my e-bike conversion kit?
A: Regularly:

  • Inspect and tighten electrical connections

  • Check torque arms and mounting brackets

  • Inspect wiring for wear or abrasion

  • Keep the battery charged and clean

Q: What if my kit stops working?
A: Check wiring, connectors, and the battery first. If the problem persists, submit a claim via the TorqueX Contact Page. Repairs must be approved before undertaking any work to be eligible for reimbursement.

Q: Are e-bike conversion kits safe in the rain?
A: TorqueX kits are water-resistant, not waterproof. Avoid submerging the motor, battery, or controller, and do not expose them to heavy water, sand, or dust.

5. Usage Questions

Q: Can I ride off-road with a conversion kit?
A: Yes, but off-road riding may increase wear on components and can affect warranty if misuse is determined.

Q: Will adding a kit affect my bike brakes or gears?
A: TorqueX kits are designed to work with standard bicycle brakes and gears. Always ensure brakes are properly adjusted for added weight and speed.

6. Performance & Troubleshooting

Q: Why does my motor feel weak or not turn?
A: Possible causes: low battery, loose connections, improper installation, or damage to the motor/controller. Check installation and wiring first, then contact TorqueX for guidance.

Q: Why is my range lower than expected?
A: Range depends on rider weight, terrain, tyre pressure, assist level, and battery condition. Reducing load, keeping tyres inflated, and using lower assist modes can help.

7. Customer Support

Q: How do I get help or warranty support?
A: Submit your request through the TorqueX Contact Page with your order number, description, and photos. A signed Statement of Truth may be required for warranty or reimbursement claims.

Q: Can I upgrade or swap components later?
A: Some components can be upgraded, but modifications may void warranty if they affect motor, battery, or controller function.
